Do not wait until you need it
Generators are often ignored until a blackout, storm or camping trip. The best time to test a generator is before it becomes urgent.
Checklist
- Check engine oil level.
- Use fresh fuel.
- Start the generator and let it warm up.
- Test with a suitable load.
- Listen for surging, hunting or misfiring.
- Inspect for fuel leaks.
- Store dry and protected.
Book a service if the generator is hard to start, surges, leaks or will not run steadily under load.
