Before the first big mow
Spring is when small mower problems quickly become frustrating. Before the lawn starts growing quickly, check the basics: fresh fuel, clean air filter, correct oil level, sharp blades and safe controls.
Checklist
- Check the oil level before starting.
- Replace stale petrol with fresh fuel.
- Inspect the air filter and clean or replace it if dirty.
- Check blades for chips, bends or blunt edges.
- Clear old grass from under the deck.
- Check cables, handles and safety controls.
- Start the mower and listen for surging, rattles or vibration.
If the mower is hard to start, surges, smokes or vibrates, book it in before the season gets busy.
